Breast Care & Research Center Catherine Peachey Breast Cancer Prevention Program
The Catherine Peachey Breast Cancer Prevention Program of the IU Simon Cancer Center was created to assess breast cancer risk in women and aid in risk reduction and early detection of breast cancer.
Our services are for women with strong family histories of breast cancer and others who may be at risk.
- Genetic counseling discusses personal and family medical history and the possibility of genetic testing.
- Genetic testing analyzes DNA and identifies specific genes that increase breast cancer risk.
- Risk factor assessment identifies personal characteristics and behaviors that may increase your chance of developing breast cancer, and modification counseling helps you make lifestyle changes that may lower breast cancer risk.
- Monitoring for signs and symptoms of breast cancer promotes early detection.
- Chemoprevention aims to reduce the risk of, or delay the development or recurrence of, cancer through drugs, vitamins, or other agents.
- Prophylactic, or preventative, surgery to remove both breasts may reduce breast cancer risk in very carefully selected women.
Anna Maria Storniolo, MD is the Director of the Catherine Peachey Breast Cancer Prevention Program. Gail Vance, MD serves as our geneticist and Cindy Hunter is our genetic counselor.
This program is funded by the Catherine Peachey Fund, Inc., an Indiana-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting cutting-edge breast cancer research.
